Mood & Memory

An Exhibition of Paintings By Artist Anne Tochka

Opening Reception
April 25 5-6:30 pm

On Display
April 25 - May 31, 2024

The works in the show are based on fleeting moments and places in time, often beginning as en plein air field studies and later revisited through the hazy lens of memory. Anne retells the story using painters’ visual tools such as color, scale, and brushstrokes, to evoke specific moods in her paintings. In this way, she infuses the scenes with the emotions of the creator, but intentionally leaves space for the viewer to bring their own memories to the works.

Creative Process

plein-air.jpg

Plein air painting is painting “in the open air” with the aim of capturing the true atmosphere, light quality, and color notes of a scene. I start most of my paintings in this manner because I love being outdoors and am privileged to have access to many beautiful places.

With the amount of time I spend in nature, I’m hugely interested in environmental conservation and wildlife preservation. One of my main goals in my work is to convey appreciation for this incredible earth we all live on.
